The Royal Canal Greenway

This newly extended Royal Canal Greeway provides 130km of level tow-path and runs through Maynooth. The Waterways Ireland amenity provides an opportunity cycle or walk between any of the main towns along the canal and return by train to where you started.

The canal attracts many birds, fish and butterflies. In particular keep your eyes peeled for the herons and if you are particularly lucky you might also spot an Otter. The banks of the canal are designed with wildlife in mind, providing a mix of wild flowers and opportunities for all manner of wildlife to create their homes on the canal.
